ITINERARY
Day 1 :- Nairobi or Nanyuki to Samburu National Reserve
You start your Northern Kenya Adventure, from either Nairobi or Nanyuki. The drive will take you through some amazing landscapes, and crossing the Equator. Our first stop will be Samburu National Reserve and accommodation for the night will be at the luxurious Elephant Bedroom Tented Camp inside the reserve. Samburu is known for having a huge variety of animals including not only the big cats, but also the Northern Five species of animals and bird which are unique to this ecosystem. These are the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Grevy Zebra and Somali Ostrich.
Day 2 :- Full Day samburu and visit to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
Our day will start with an early bush breakfast, and head to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. It’s a sanctuary that was started with the community to try improve and protect wildlife especially the elephants from poaching. It’s a home to many baby elephants and you will get a chance to feed and interact with them.
Later return for Lunch at the camp and relax on leisure before embarking on a 2 hours evening game drive.
Overnight at Elephant Bedroom Camp
Day 3 and 4 Samburu to Lake Turkana Loiyangalani Region
Wake up for an early breakfast and departure from Elephant Bedroom camp, to make your way to Lake Turkana, also known as the Jade Sea. You will pass some amazing mountain ranges, and have a packed lunch en-route to the lake. On getting closer to the lake, you will pass the largest windfarm in Africa, and see Mt Kulal (which is a biosphere reserve) in the distance as well as various Turkana/Samburu/Rendille villages. Lake Turkana is the world’s largest desert and alkaline lake and is known for the world’s largest Nile crocodile population. Accommodation for the night will be in a town called Loiyangalani, which is on the shores of the lake. Malabo Resort will be your home for the next 2 days.
During your 2 nights’ stay in Loiyangalani, you will visit the El Molo, the smallest tribe in Kenya. You will get a unique opportunity to see their village and quirky fishing boats. Other activities for the day be a boat ride on the lake, visit to the desert museum and going to see some ancient rock art. After this, you will have some time to relax and enjoy swimming in the Jade Sea. Finally, if the schools are open, you will also visit some school children and give them some much needed school items.
Day 5 and 6 :- Tours around Oldonyo Mara ranges and Mt. Nyiru
On Day 5, you will now head towards the stunning Desert Rose Lodge on Mt Nyiru. Desert Lodge has some of the most unique architecture of any lodge in Kenya. En-route you will have a chance to walk on some sand dunes and get some amazing views of Mt Nyiru and the Ol Donyo Mara ranges (two of the mountain ranges of Northern Kenya). Once at the lodge, you will have some relaxation time and do a Samburu Cultural Visit.
Day 7 and 8:- Sera Conservancy
On Day 6, you drive past the Ndoto Mountain ranges and proceed towards Sera Conservancy. Accommodation for the night will be at Saruni Rhino Lodge – a luxury tented camp. One of the key activities while at Saruni Rhino will be tracking rhinos of foot – an experience of a lifetime.
Day 9:- Back to Nairobi
After breakfast on day 9, you will leave at leisure heading back to Nairobi/Nanyuki to end your adventure. You will have an early lunch in Nanyuki before arriving in Nairobi by early evening.
