This strategic military fortification played a major role in the history of the UAE. Built in 16th century, it is the only castle standing atop a mountainous dune in the UAE, and was the last area to fall into British hands in their long war against the Al Qawasim tribe.
Continue on to visit the Mohammad Bin Salem Mosque and National Museum. The museum is housed in a fort that was the residence of the ruling family until the early 1960s.
Lastly, you’ll pass through the fish market area, stopping to explore the Old Souk, where you can find everything from ancient handicrafts to household items.
