While Kenya is a year-round destination, the absolute best time for this specific itinerary is between July and September. This aligns perfectly with Day 5 of your trip, as it is the peak season for the world-famous Great Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara. Additionally, these months are dry and cooler, offering optimal wildlife viewing conditions and perfect beach weather in Diani.
Absolutely. Upgrading to the Maasai Mara hot air balloon safari (approx. USD 450 per person) on Day 5 is highly recommended. It offers a breathtaking, bird's-eye view of the sweeping savannah and migrating herds as the sun rises. The experience is topped off with a luxury champagne bush breakfast upon landing, making it a once-in-a-lifetime highlight of any Kenyan holida
You will need to pack for two distinct climates: For the Safari (Nairobi to Maasai Mara): Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive), a warm jacket or fleece for chilly early morning game drives, comfortable walking shoes for Hell's Gate and Crescent Island, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. For the Beach (Diani & Wasini Island): Lightweight breathable clothing, swimwear, sandals, a rash guard for snorkeling, and reef-safe sunscreen. Essentials: A good camera, binoculars, and insect repellent.
The Madaraka Express (SGR) train from Nairobi to the Mombasa terminus takes approximately 6 hours, departing at 08:00hrs and arriving at 14:00hrs. It is a highly scenic and comfortable journey that cuts right through parts of Tsavo National Park. Keep your eyes glued to the window, as passengers frequently spot elephants, giraffes, and zebras roaming right next to the tracks!
Yes! One of the most unique aspects of Day 2 is that both Hell's Gate National Park and Crescent Island Sanctuary allow you to experience wildlife outside of a safari vehicle. Because these areas do not host large predators like lions or hyenas, it is perfectly safe to enjoy a bicycle ride or a guided nature walk alongside giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles.
The Wasini Island excursion on Day 9 is a comprehensive, all-inclusive coastal experience. It includes: Round-trip transfers from your Diani resort. A traditional dhow boat cruise across the marine park. High chances of dolphin spotting and guided snorkeling/swimming in crystal-clear waters. A traditional Swahili-style seafood lunch (crab, fish, and local delicacies) on the island. A sunset canoe or boat experience at the calm waters of the Congo River.
Your "All-Inclusive" meal plan during your stay in Diani (Days 7, 8, and 9) typically covers all daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), snacks throughout the day, and a selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, juices, and water at the resort’s designated bars and restaurants.
For a trip to Kenya, a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Additionally, because you will be visiting the Maasai Mara and the coastal region of Diani, malaria prophylactics are highly recommended. Consult your travel clinic or doctor at least 4–6 weeks before departure for up-to-date medical advice.
To maximize your relaxation time on Day 10, you will skip the 6-hour train ride back. Instead, you will be transferred directly from your Diani resort to the local Ukunda Airport (OKA) for a convenient, short domestic flight (approx. 1 hour) back to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi. Your flight will be timed perfectly to give you ample time to check in for your international flight home.
Tipping is not included in the main package price and is entirely at your discretion, though it is highly customary in Kenya’s tourism industry. As a general guideline, we recommend budgeting USD $10–$15 per day for your driver-guide, and USD $5–$10 per day for hotel and camp staff. Tipping in local currency (Kenyan Shillings) or US Dollars (printed after 2013) is widely accepted.
